How to Start Practising

  1. Choose Start learning in the first available group and get to know its new letters.
  2. Practise recognising patterns: for example, answer A when you see .-.
  3. Practise recalling patterns: when shown A, enter .- using dots and dashes.
  4. Work through mixed practice and the closing check to unlock the next group. Later groups also bring back letters you have already learned.

Try recalling the answer before checking the letter cards. You can return to the cards when you need a reminder.

Learn A–Z in Seven Groups

The course begins with short patterns and gradually introduces longer ones. The group order is E T → I M A N → S U R W → D K G O → H V F L → P J B X → C Y Z Q. The course overview above shows your progress through these groups.

Each group combines new letters with earlier material, so you practise recalling individual patterns in different orders. Once you have completed a group, you can repeat it or review the letters from all completed groups. Completing all seven opens a full A–Z review.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to know Morse code before starting?

No. The first group introduces E (.) and T (-), and each later group adds four letters. The letter cards let you study the new patterns before answering questions.

Does this include listening practice?

This course practises recognising and writing dots and dashes, and you can complete it silently. For A–Z sound recognition, take the listening course, which saves its progress separately. You can also play your own messages with the International Morse code translator.

Can I practise numbers and punctuation here?

The course covers the 26 letters A–Z. For numbers and punctuation, use the International Morse code chart, which includes their patterns and the timing rules.

Can I review letters before finishing all seven groups?

Yes. After completing your first group, choose Review learned letters to practise letters from the groups you have finished. You can also choose Practise again for a completed group.

Will my progress be saved on another device?

Progress is saved only in this browser. Nothing is uploaded, no account is needed, and progress does not sync between devices or browsers. Clearing site data removes the saved progress. If the browser cannot save it, the course displays a message and still lets you practise for the current session.
